Mission: Volcano Rescue
Difficulty: Tricky
Required Equipment: Thermo Bunyip License

You’re going to need a Thermo Bunyip license to do this mission, so go to Trader Bob’s shop at Burramudgee Town and buy one. It will cost you 5,000 opals.

Drive from Burramudgee to the Mount Boom entrance and talk to Dennis who sends TY into the heart of a molten volcano to find out what has happened to his scientist. Using the Thermo Bunyip you’ll have to fight enemies, put out fires and activate switch puzzles in order to reach the final chamber of the volcano. If you look at the map for Mount Boom you’ll see a lot of chambers but most of them just have collectables so you won’t need to visit them to finish the mission.

GREEN GATE:
Enter Mount Boom. In front of the entry there is a group of koala workers. Use your Infrarang/X-rang to see the frill spy so you can rang him. There is a Thermo Bunyip to the left of TY. Hop into it and follow the path to the right of the entrance until you reach a floating platform. Jump onto the platform and shoot the red button using the Thermo Bunyip’s water jets to make the platform float over the lava chasm. Jump onto the path then extinguish the huge firewall (1) with the Thermo Bunyip’s water jets. Follow the path around fighting the Robocrabs or knocking them off into the lava. As you near the end of the path two pillars will rise up out of the lava, so that if you fall off the ledge you can easily get back up without having to go all the way back to the start.

At the end of the path there is a series of floating platforms (2) to the left, jump up these platforms until you reach the upper path. Follow the upper path around to the left until you reach a firewall (3), extinguish the

fire and jump over the gap. Continue following the path until you reach a spinning switch (4). Shoot the switch until the green light next to it lights up and the gate (5) underneath the lava unlocks. Before you jump down into the lava, drive further along the ledge and you’ll find another 500-opal bag and a red button (9).

Jump back into the lava, dive down and swim over to the tunnel entrance (5) that is now unlocked and has a green glowing light. Swim through the tunnel and follow the green lights along the roof of the tunnel, passing through all of the green gates. The lights will lead you to the Green Cavern where the scientists are. Once in the Green Cavern swim through the lava over to the path, it will lead you to the scientists. There are a few bad guys you’ll have to watch out for on the way up – namely the Uber Dragons who will breathe blue flames at you. Shoot them with water from a distance and you’ll be fine. Once you get to the top of the path (6) you’ll find the scientists and complete the mission. There is a gate here that you can choose to use to leave the level and return to Southern Rivers. If you remain in Mount Boom you can now attempt to open all of the other caverns and get the remaining hidden collectables. To the right of the exit gate there is a picture frame and opal bag that can be collected. Use your Infrarang/X-rang to look at the koalas near the exit; one of them is a frill spy.

YELLOW GATE:
In the Green Cavern follow the path back to the lava's edge; there are a number of platforms that you can use to reach a ledge with a red button and yellow light (7). Press the red button to activate the yellow light and unlock the yellow gate (8). Use the warp flower to get back to the path, hop into the Bunyip and travel down the lava tunnels towards the starting cavern. When you reach the yellow gate (8) you should be able to enter it. Once inside the Yellow Cavern collect the Kromium Orb and talk to Steve.

BLUE GATE:
Follow the lava tunnel and return to the starting cavern. Follow the path up to the top of the mountain and at the end of the highest ledge there’s a red button (9). Rang the button to lower the ladder on the gantry (10). (There is another red button (20) under the smaller of the two gantries. To rang it you’ll need to use the Infrarang/X-rang. Pushing the button simply lowers a floating platform so that you can jump from the small gantry onto the lowered platform and then onto the platform holding a 100-opal bag.) Make your way back to the large gantry, exit the Bunyip and climb the ladder (10) onto the gantry where there are 3 green buttons (a, b and c). These buttons correspond to the three platforms with flashing red lights (a, b and c). When you press one of the green buttons it will turn red and the corresponding platform will start to move along a path. If you rang the button while it’s red the platform will stop moving. To reset the platforms to their original stationary positions press either of the yellow buttons (d). The basic goal here is to use the moving platforms to make a path to each of the blue spinning switches.

This can be a bit tricky, but once you’ve made a path to one of the spinning switches you can then hop into the Thermo Bunyip and jump over the platforms to activate the switch. The light next to the switch will glow and then you can jump back up to the gantry, reset the position of the platforms using the yellow button (d), and use the red buttons to make a path to the next switch. If you fall off the platforms and land in the lava, you’ll have to make your way back up the mountain again. When you get back to the floating platform section you’ll see a yellow button (d) next to a gantry with a warp flower on it (12). If you don’t want to reset the position of the platforms you can use the Lasharang or the Warperang to rang the lever to lower the ladder. Climb the ladder and hop in the warp flower, TY will then be warped up to the upper path next to the highest floating platform. Otherwise you can just rang the yellow button and jump up the platforms to reach the upper path.

Once you have activated the three blue spinning switches the blue gate (13) will be unlocked. Use the Bunyip to swim through the lava tunnels to the blue gate (13) and enter the Blue Cavern. There is a small chamber blocked off with a chain wire fence and a warp crystal on both sides of the fence. Use your Warperang to hit the warp crystal on the far side of the fence and TY will be warped into the small chamber. Collect the cog and press the red button (14), the red light should turn on and the red gate (15) will unlock. Use the Warperang to get back through the fence and re-enter the Bunyip.

RED GATE:
Swim through the lava tunnel through to the red gate and enter the red chamber. Collect the cog in the first section of the cavern and activate the first spinning switch (17). Use the Warperang to get through the fence (18) into the second part of the chamber. Collect the cog and the bilby and activate the two spinning switches. Once all three switches have been activated, the last lava gate (19) will unlock allowing the Bunyip to swim down the tunnel and collect the Kromium Orb.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

* HOT ROCKS: TY can jump onto the hot rocks if he rangs them with his Frostyrang/Freezerang first to cool them down. If the rocks are red TY will sustain damage and be knocked back to his last safe position. While the rocks are blue they are cool enough for TY to stand on.

* TEETER TOTTER ROCKS: If TY unbalances these rocks while standing on them he will cause them to tip and fall. If he needs to jump onto one but it is facing the wrong direction he can use any of his rangs to hit the rock and spin it.
